This article has been updated to correct the time in office Spencer and Ulrich would have if they decided to run in November.
The agenda items for tonight’s Sumter County Commission meeting can be separated into three categories: rezoning proposals, contract proposals and revisions, and (most importantly) the swearing-in of the two new Commissioners. The meeting, held at the Everglades Regional Rec Center, starts promptly at 7:00 pm.
The rezoning requests encompass about 18.5 acres, and are all recommended for approval by Planning and Zoning. The first required public hearing on the Sumter County Comprehensive Plan map will be conducted by P+Z.
There will be several proposals for new contracts, most of which are related to EMS and hospital services. One such proposal is with Stryker, for a cost-saving program. Another proposal is with Digitech Computer for EMS billing services. One prominent contract revision request is for UF to provide a Medical Director and Associate Medical Director for Sumter County. Another contract amendment will request additional services from Kimley-Horn for improvements design to CR-229.
The most important matter of business on tonight’s docket is the swearing-in of Diane Spencer and Roberta Ulrich. These two new Commissioners will serve in the places of Gary Search and Oren Miller until November 8, at which time they may run to fill the remainder of the terms, which end in 2024.
